The General Authority for Forest Management and Development has allocated 1070 hectares of land within its area for tobacco cultivation during the current agricultural season.

The director of plant wealth in the authority, Eng. Wafik Zarrouf, told SANA that there is a great demand for tobacco cultivation as a result of the economic feasibility achieved from it, as it has become one of the main crops that secure income for a large number of families. Before the General Tobacco Corporation, it contributed to increasing the cultivated areas, such as the lucrative purchase price for the entire crop and the provision of seedlings and fertilizers.

The production cycle of the tobacco crop extends for four months, and cultivation operations begin in early April and until the crop is harvested in the beginning of August. The productivity ranges between 400 and 450 kg per acre.
