Apple delays the release of the iPhone 12

2020-04-27T15:23:36.138Z

The brand could delay the launch of new smartphones by one month, usually scheduled for September.

The arrival of new iPhones could be delayed by a month, according to the Wall Street Journal. Faced with production and supply difficulties linked to the coronavirus epidemic, Apple would have delayed mass production of its new terminals by one month.

Usually, Apple reveals its new iPhones in early September, for a start of marketing ten days later. The date of actual disclosure should not be affected, however the sale would be delayed by several weeks. Faced with significant logistical difficulties linked to the coronavirus crisis, Apple could not access the manufacturing levels usually set up by the brand for a new product in due time. The challenge is all the greater since Apple will launch four iPhone models in September. Even before the iPhone 12 is released, stock-outs are feared.

First 5G terminals

The news is bad for Apple, which does not have 5G terminals in its range and was to unveil them in September. If the new generation of mobile telephony is not yet launched in France, it is already in other countries, including the United States, China, or the United Kingdom. So many important markets for the brand. With this announced delay, Apple runs the risk of losing a few points of market share to the benefit of its Chinese or Korean competitors.

However, this would not be the first time that Apple has made its fans wait until October. This had already been the case with the iPhone X. Announced at the same time as the iPhone 8 in September 2017, the iPhone X did not start being sold until November of that same year.
