Last update date: 2020-04-27 20:20The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health stated that it is investigating two suspected cases of food poisoning involving "Xilai Rare Meat" in Causeway Bay. A total of 9 persons were involved in the incident. The center said that after eating in the restaurant, 9 diners developed symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Seven of them had sought medical treatment and two of them required hospitalization. All affected persons were in stable condition.
The CHP stated that the first case involved a man and six women, aged between 2 and 62. They had eaten fireside eggs on April 21 at the "Xi Lai Thin Meat" dinner at Tang Lung Street, Causeway Bay. About 15 to 51 hours later, they developed abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Another case involved two 18-year-old women. They had lunch in the same restaurant on April 22 and had similar symptoms about 9 to 14 hours later.
In the incident, 7 affected persons have sought medical treatment, 2 of whom went to Hong Kong Hospital for treatment. Among them, a 2-year-old baby girl has been discharged and a 62-year-old female patient is still in hospital. All affected persons are in stable condition. A CHP spokesman said that the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has been notified of the incident and the investigation is continuing.
Xilai Rare Meat is a Korean barbecue restaurant that once advertised that the selected Korean beef came from "Anxin Ranch", that is, cattle raised in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, which belong to "authentic Korean beef".
The Center for Health Protection reminds citizens of the following points:
• patronize reliable and licensed restaurants;
• Avoid eating raw seafood;
• Choose cold dishes carefully, including sashimi, sushi and oysters at the buffet;
• When eating hot pot or barbecue, make sure the food is thoroughly cooked before eating;
• During cooking, handle carefully and separate raw and cooked food thoroughly;
• Use two sets of chopsticks and utensils to handle raw and cooked food separately;
• Do not patronize unlicensed food stalls;
• Drink boiled water;
• Do not try to use salt, vinegar, wine and Japanese mustard for sterilization, because they have no sterilization effect; and
• Wash hands before eating and after going to the toilet.
