The United States recorded 1,330 more deaths from coronaviruses in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 54,841.

Meanwhile, according to figures reported Sunday by Johns Hopkins University , confirmed infections reach 964,937. The United States is by far the country most affected by the pandemic in terms of infections and deaths.

The head of the White House working group on the disease, Deborah Birx , warned that social distancing will continue at least until September . "He will be with us throughout the summer to ensure that we protect ourselves," he told NBC.

"That's where the projections take us, it's very much based on (what happens in) Detroit and Louisiana and other states; then you look at Seattle, which never peaked and never had a big outbreak, and we try to understand what we can do "he explained.

The doctor revealed that the White House task force stopped basing its projections on world statistics and focused on the information it receives about every outbreak within the United States .

Asked if she was not afraid of negative consequences after several states resumed activities last week, Birx replied that she "had good conversations" with some governors, and said that they understand the risks.

The regional leaders "speak of this not as a turning on of the light but as a gradual increase in the intensity of the light, very slowly, and that is why the reopening is taking place in phases," he added.

Some states relaxed the restrictions last week and others announced that they will do so in the coming days, and among all of them they make up more than half of the 50 districts of the country most affected by the pandemic, with around a third of infections and a quarter of those killed by coronavirus worldwide.

Meanwhile, beaten by growing criticism of his controversial comments by the disease, refuted by scientists, the US president, Donald Trump , announced that it will stop talking every day to report the pandemic because "not worth the time and the effort".

What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions, & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately. They get record ratings, & the American people get nothing but Fake News. Not worth the time & effort!

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 25, 2020

Analysts attribute the decision to the fact that his advisers have warned him that so much exposure hurts his campaign for presidential reelection. What is the point of White House press conferences when the failed media outlets ask no more than hostile questions and then refuse to report the truth or the facts accurately? They have record records and Americans get nothing but fake news. It's not worth the time and effort !! ”Trump said via Twitter.

In addition, Trump dismissed reports that he was considering firing health secretary Alex Azar , as criticism of the United States' response to the coronavirus pandemic increases.

Trump, whose image before could be hit in the face of the November elections by the management of the health crisis, lashed out at reports from CNN and other media "Reports that health secretary Alex Azar is going to be 'fired 'It is fake news for me,' Trump wrote on Twitter. " They are desperate to give a perception of chaos and confusion to public opinion, " he shot.
