Over 20 years ago, Hubert Müller (name changed) concluded a premium savings contract with the Sparkasse for his daughter. Now the Sparkasse wanted to persuade him to quit. But he doesn't want to.

Dachau - Dachauer Hubert Müller (name changed) has been a customer of the Sparkasse Dachau since childhood. When his daughter Maria (name also changed) was born, he signed a savings contract for her with his wife in 1998 and paid around € 250 a month. Of course at the Sparkasse Dachau. But now Hubert Müller is mad at the Sparkasse.

This asked him and his daughter to talk to the customer and, as Müller reports, promised that she would like to terminate the daughter's premium savings contract in the next two quarters. "The contract brings my daughter a high premium every year, around € 1,500," says Müller.

In an interview, the customer advisor Müller announced that she had received a list of all customers who had signed a premium savings contract years ago and should address them. During the conversation, Müller had the impression that the Sparkasse wanted to get rid of the savings contracts that were expensive for them, and that the customers should be motivated to terminate the agreement. As a "reward", the Sparkasse offers a one-year savings letter with two percent interest and free deposit management. In contrast, the premium for the savings contract at Müller is now 50 percent of the annual savings paid in. So it is in the contract, which is available to the Dachauer Nachrichten.

Savings banks rely on a judgment of the Federal Court of Justice for premium savings contracts, which allows banks to terminate high-interest premium savings contracts if the highest premium level has been reached (we reported). Because the contract of Hubert Müller, which he had signed for his now adult daughter, but has a fixed term, termination of the Sparkasse is not permitted, consumer protection centers argue.

In the customer financial status of Mr. Müller, who is also available to the Dachauer Nachrichten, Sparkasse Dachau entered a term of the contract on November 1, 2097. For this reason, Müller suspects, the Sparkasse tries to terminate the premium savings contracts. Müller does not find this procedure in order. "With the report in my home newspaper, I want to warn other customers about careless dismissal," says the Dachauer. He is concerned that older customers, in particular, continue to trust their customer service representative at Sparkasse and could be urged to give up their lucrative capital investments.

Sparkasse Dachau confirms to Dachauer Nachrichten that it has or will have a conversation with every customer who has a premium savings contract. Sabrina Steinau, Head of Marketing at Sparkasse Dachau, reports on many positive reactions from her customers. "Many are happy that the Sparkasse reports, elsewhere there was only a letter with a notice of termination," said Steinau.

The talks are about capturing a client's overall wealth situation and considering whether it would still make sense for him to save premiums. The total return on the investment would decrease from year to year if the highest premium level was reached. "However, the decision whether the customer wants to cancel his premium savings contract is up to the customer," says Steinau.

Sparkasse Dachau itself has not yet given notice of termination. Steinau could not say whether this would be the case in the future.

Most recently, the Sparkasse had closed six of its 23 branches in the Dachau district for customer traffic until further notice.
