For the second question, candidates can choose one of three questions. General Studies Examination Paper 2, candidates must complete the paper within 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the paper has a total of three questions. The topics are provided with reference materials, and candidates only need to answer one question.
Topic 1: Difficulties in Conserving Cantonese Opera
Topic 1 provides excerpts from newspaper news materials, including a 10-year-old girl and grandmother talking about falling in love with Cantonese opera after watching Cantonese opera; Bahe Cantonese Opera Academy's administrative co-ordinator believes that attracting the younger generation is vital to preserve the vitality of this traditional Chinese art ; And the Children's Cantonese Opera Association hopes to make Cantonese opera themes more relevant to young people.
The question asked candidates to explain the difficulties of Hong Kong ’s conservation of Cantonese opera. They also asked how far they agreed that “intangible cultural heritage can make a significant contribution to Hong Kong ’s contemporary life”, and they must explain the answer.

Topic 2: Obstacles to the development of private enterprises
Topic two provides multiple newspaper excerpts of news, including President Xi Jinping's letter to private entrepreneurs, affirming private enterprises' active participation in poverty alleviation; when private enterprises seek support from the national banking system, they are often regarded as second-class Corporate citizens; and Chinese state-owned enterprises account for an increasing proportion of industrial production and profit growth.
The question asks candidates to explain the obstacles they may encounter in the development of Chinese private enterprises; in the global economy, should state-owned enterprises play a more dominant role than private enterprises in China's economic development?
Topic 3: Explain the impact of smart city development on energy use
Topic three provides excerpts from the "Winner of the 2017 American Smart City Challenge" and a summary of the newspaper. It talks about the proposed use of the Columbus City plan in the United States including electronic network connection infrastructure, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, integrated data platform, and autonomous vehicles. And many other technologies, working closely with residents, community and business leaders, and technology experts; and an Indian environmental activist questioning his government ’s smart city plan.
The question requires candidates to explain the possible impact of smart city development on energy use and the extent to which smart city development can build a more sustainable society.
