Airport - With long-range Airbus A350 aircraft, Lufthansa is currently bringing protective materials from China to Munich Airport twice a day, helping to overcome the corona crisis. Lufthansa normally flies guests with its A350 fleet to long-haul destinations in North and South America and Asia. With the daily special transports from Beijing and Shanghai, the urgently needed protective masks arrive in the Bavarian capital.
Aeroground, the handling subsidiary of Flughafen München GmbH (FMG), takes care of unloading the long-haul aircraft. The freight is then transported to its final destination by forwarding agents commissioned by the federal government.
From Munich, Lufthansa is using a total of four passenger aircraft for the transport of protective equipment, and six other Airbus A330 aircraft are operating from Frankfurt on a similar mission. With the ten passenger planes, Lufthansa is creating additional capacities for freight transport, thus expanding Lufthansa Cargo's fleet, which consists of 17 purely freight planes. The daily freight transports with the passenger jets are to be continued at least until mid-May.
