US President Trump had questioned his regular weekend press conferences after a shit storm. Now he wants to go to the media again
Washington (dpa) - Confusion surrounding the regular press conferences of US President Donald Trump in the corona crisis: White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said that Trump would do it on Monday at 5:00 p.m. (local time / 11:00 p.m. CEST) the media kick.
The White House had initially announced a press conference for this time on Monday, but then canceled it. McEnany now wrote that Trump's appearance in the White House rose garden was about additional guidelines for coronavirus testing and "other announcements" to reopen the economy.
Trump had questioned his regular press conferences over the weekend's corona crisis. What was the point of holding press conferences in the White House if the media "asked nothing but hostile questions and then refused to report the truth or facts," he wrote on Twitter on Saturday night. "They have record ratings and the American people get nothing but fake news." That is not worth the effort. There were no press conferences on Saturday and Sunday.
Trump has held press conferences almost daily since mid-March, some of which lasted longer than two hours. Journalists were able to ask him detailed questions. Due to verbal attacks on some media representatives, controversial, sometimes false statements and much self-praise, Trump increasingly criticized his appearances. At Thursday's press conference, Trump encouraged researchers to explore ways to inject people into the fight against the disinfectant virus. With this, he triggered broad outrage. On Friday, he tried to capture what he said, saying it was just "sarcasm."
