The Russian ambassador in Damascus Alexander Yevimov stressed that the Western sanctions imposed on Syria have dangerous effects on the country, especially in the circumstances of the spread of the Corona virus, stressing that Russia demands the immediate lifting of these sanctions.

"The main problem with which there is a danger of not knowing the reasons for fighting the Corona virus in Syria is reflected in the Western sanctions imposed on it, as the consequences of these sanctions in the present circumstances become worse," Yevimov said in an interview with the Russian Interfax news agency published today.

Yefimov pointed out that Russia and some other countries announced their support for the immediate lifting of unilateral sanctions that impede the efforts of governments, especially the Syrian government, in combating the Corona virus, and said that Russia's calls in this regard remain unanswered because the known beneficiaries of the sanctions policy do not intend to abandon this The approach, and on the contrary, they are ready to increase the further pressure on Syria and others.

Yefimov explained that the Syrian government is achieving great successes in tackling the Corona virus in the country and is making all efforts to maintain the stability of the social and economic situation in spite of the war imposed on it and the sanctions and the health institutions in particular being exposed to massive damage due to terrorism, noting the measures taken by the Syrian government to address the virus .

The Russian ambassador warned of the danger of the spread of the virus in the areas occupied by the American forces on the Syrian island and in the Al-Tanf area, due to the presence of the conditions to spread it in these areas.

In another context, the Russian ambassador stressed that the Western calls to the Syrian government to stop the war operations against terrorists have absolutely nothing to do with the concern for the lives of citizens, but rather to undermine the anti-terrorist operation.

Yevimov stressed that Moscow is counting on resuming the process of a political solution to the crisis in Syria as soon as the risks of the spread of the Corona pandemic, which led to the failure of the regular session of the Constitutional Committee, which was planned to be held at the end of last March, are not held.
