US President Donald Trump appears to be reviewing his regular press conferences in the corona crisis.

  • Donald Trump steps on the gas again on Twitter and calls for resistance .
  • The US president calls for an end to the curfew in the states.
  • The 73-year-old is particularly targeting the democratically led states  .
  • Here you will find the basic facts * about the corona virus, as well as current case numbers in Germany.

April 28 update : A U.S. state has already  filed a lawsuit for damages against China - now Donald Trump is also threatening the country. The US president may want to claim compensation for the corona pandemic. His government is currently reviewing how Beijing can be "held accountable" for the spread of the corona virus, Trump said in Washington on Monday. He did not comment on the amount his government could charge. It was a "very substantial" sum, Trump only said.

Trump has repeatedly criticized China for dealing with the corona virus. In the meantime, he spoke of the "Chinese virus" because the pathogen had first been found in a human in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Washington's main criticism is Beijing's lack of transparency at the start of the crisis.

Corona crisis: US media attack Trump - "This is his biggest concern right now ...?"

Update of April 27, 8:28 p.m .: Due to the ongoing corona crisis in the United States, the Democratic area code in the state of New York has been canceled. That decided the responsible members of the Democrats on Monday. For the first time in history, the democratic primary in New York will be canceled. While other states had postponed their area codes, those responsible in New York decided to cancel

This is possible primarily because the primaries are de facto decided after left Senator Bernie Sanders' withdrawal . Joe Biden , who was vice president under Barack Obama, is the only remaining candidate in the race and is almost certain that Donald Trump will be challenged . Local and regional elections in the state of New York are scheduled to continue on June 23, and voters are encouraged to vote by postal vote if possible.

Corona crisis: US media are attacking Trump - chief of staff is thwarting him

Update of April 27, 3:26 pm:  The US newspaper Politico finds the counter-statement of  the White House on an unflattering New York Times report about US President Donald Trump (see update of April 26) laughable. Chief of Staff Mark Meadows  had told the New York Post : "I assure you, my biggest concern right now is that Donald Trump even has time to have a bite in between."

Politico referred to the devastating effects of the corona pandemic in the United States * and asked: “Wait a minute. That's his biggest concern right now? ”Donald Trump is getting caught up in unimportant skirmishes with the media - given the horrific Sars CoV-2 case numbers in the country, the commentary said.

Coronavirus: Trump contradicts report on everyday life in crisis - "work hard"

Update from April 26, 10:04 pm: Embittered and alone in the White House, fries and cola light within reach: Donald Trump does not want to accept  this depiction of his everyday life in the corona crisis.

“The people who know me and know the history of our country say that I am the hardest working president in history. I don't know, but I'm working hard and have probably accomplished more than any other president in history in the first three and a half years, ”Trump wrote on Sunday in one of several messages on Twitter about an article in New York Times left out last Thursday.

When will all of the “reporters” who have received Noble Prizes for their work on Russia, Russia, Russia, only to have been proven totally wrong (and, in fact, it was the other side who committed the crimes), be turning back their cherished “Nobles” so that they can be given ....

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 26, 2020

The newspaper had drawn a picture of Trump's “strange new life,” citing more than a dozen government officials and close advisors to the president . He is currently only in his office, the Oval Office, at midday, mostly in a bad mood after watching television since the early hours of the morning.

He was focused on how the media rated his response to the spread of the virus . The newspaper further described that the press conferences on the corona virus , which Trump recently held almost every day, are the only thing he can look forward to.

I work from early in the morning until late at night, haven't left the White House in many months (except to launch Hospital Ship Comfort) in order to take care of Trade Deals, Military Rebuilding etc., and then I read a phony story in the failing @nytimes about my work ....

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 26, 2020

Trump seems to be particularly annoyed by the passage, which says that he watches television in his private dining room and that fries and cola light are always available. He worked from early in the morning until late in the evening, only to read a "wrong" story from the New York Times about his work schedule and eating habits, Trump annoyed on Twitter.

Update of April 26, 6.57 a.m .: US President Donald Trump apparently is reviewing his regular press conferences in the corona crisis . What was the use of holding press conferences in the White House when the media "asked nothing but hostile questions and then refused to report the truth or facts," Trump wrote on Saturday night (local time) on Twitter. "You have record ratings and the American people get nothing but fake news." That was not worth the effort. It was unclear whether his tweet meant that he would no longer want to hold press conferences on the Corona crisis in the future. There was no such briefing on Saturday . Also for Sunday there was none on Trump's schedule.

What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions, & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately. They get record ratings, & the American people get nothing but fake news. Not worth the time & effort!

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 25, 2020

Trump has held press conferences almost daily since mid-March, some of which lasted longer than two hours. Journalists were able to ask him detailed questions. Due to verbal attacks on some media representatives, controversial, sometimes false statements and much self-praise, Trump increasingly criticized his appearances.

Corona: Trump criticizes easing - advisors warn of a second wave of infections in the United States

Update: April 25, 7:03:  President Donald Trump has Germany crisis coronavirus in the available ventilators . Trump said at a press conference at the White House on Friday that the United States would send respirators to Mexico, Honduras, and France, among others - and Germany "should need it".

The USA had manufactured such devices on a large scale in the face of a feared lack of ventilators . In the end, however, it appeared that not all ventilators were needed, even though the United States is the country with the most confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths worldwide. In the meantime, more than 890,000 infections and more than 51,000 deaths have been reported there .

Update from April 24, 7.48 p.m .:  US President Donald Trump signed another stimulus package to deal with the Corona crisis on Friday . The package, which Republicans and Democrats agreed in Congress after days of negotiation, provides $ 484 billion in aid. Congress had already approved a $ 2.2 trillion stimulus package in March to support the troubled US economy . More than 26 million people lost their jobs in five weeks.

The new package is designed to add $ 320 billion to an existing loan program for small and medium-sized businesses. The loans, which can be canceled later, are intended to limit the rise in unemployment in the United States . Another loan program is expected to provide approximately $ 60 billion, $ 75 billion for healthcare and another $ 25 billion for coronavirus testing and research.

Funds from the previous $ 350 billion stimulus package for employers from the previous stimulus package had already been exhausted last week. The Republicans had therefore pushed for an increase. The Democrats wanted to agree to this only if there were also additional funds for health care and corona tests , which are still lacking.

Corona in the US: Trump criticizes easing - advisors warn of a second wave of infections

Update of April 23:  The immigration stop for 60 days is official: US President Donald Trump has signed the announced decision to temporarily suspend immigration to the United States. He said that on Wednesday evening in the White House. Trump justified the move again by saying that jobs and medical resources must be saved in the face of the Corona crisis for Americans. "We want to take care of our citizens first - we have to."

Trump also wants to free the US economy from corona restrictions as quickly as possible - but now he is even slowing down a republican governor. The announced easing in the state of Georgia from this Friday comes "too early," said Trump. "Security must be a priority," said the Republican. At his regular coronavirus press briefing, however, he caused horror with abstruse coronavirus therapy approaches.

Corona crisis in the USA: second wave danger

In Georgia, among other things, gyms, hairdressers and nail salons should be able to reopen in compliance with certain regulations. From next Monday, this should also apply to theaters and restaurants. Bars and clubs, however, must remain closed.

Trump's advisors have already warned of a second coronavirus epidemic in the fall. They therefore urged all Americans to be vaccinated against the flu this year for the common good.

Update of April 22, 1 p.m .:   US President Donald Trump has harshly asked Harvard University to  repay Corona aid  . "I want Harvard to pay the money back, okay?" Trump said at the White House on Tuesday. "And if they don't, we'll do something else."

"I don't like that at all," said Trump , referring to the million-dollar grant for the elite university. The Corona aid was intended for employees, not for one of the richest institutions in the world.

The renowned college, based in Cambridge , Massachusetts , said it had received $ 8.6 million from the U.S. government's $ 2 trillion corona relief program . The money went entirely to students who were in need because of the Corona crisis , the university management emphasized.

Coronavirus in the United States: Harvard University does not want to repay aid package funds

At the same time, she pointed out that the funds did not come from an aid package for small and medium-sized companies: "President Trump is right, it would not have been appropriate if our institution had received money that was intended for small companies in need." The university did not respond to Trump's request for a repayment of the grant .

Harvard University is considered the richest university in the world . According to the student newspaper The Harvard Crimson , the university's foundation assets have totaled nearly $ 41 billion last year . Because of the Corona crisis, however, it is now probably a few billion dollars lower.

Coronavirus in the US: Trump wants to suspend immigration for 60 days

April 22 update: Due to the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic , US President Donald Trump,  as reported on Tuesday evening, wants to largely suspend immigration to the United States for at least 60 days . He justified this on Tuesday with the fact that US citizens should be given preferential treatment in the domestic labor market, which was hit hard by the crisis.

The issue of permanent residence and work permits , the so-called green cards , is therefore being temporarily stopped . In contrast, visas for only temporary living and working in the USA - i.e. seasonal work - can still be issued. According to his own statements, Trump wants to sign the relevant decree on Wednesday. A possible extension of the measure should then be examined before the end of the 60 days , Trump said during his daily briefing on the corona crisis in the White House. The duration of the immigration stop therefore depends on the "economic conditions".

In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 21, 2020

The measure justified Trump saying that he  "protect Americans" may. When the job market grows again, US citizens should be "first in line for jobs". He described it as "wrong and unjust" if US citizens were displaced by immigrants when filling positions.

Corona virus in the U.S.: Trump plans to temporarily suspend immigration to the U.S. due to the pandemic

Update of April 21 : He has already followed a rigorous course in entry and immigration policy throughout his entire presidency - now US President Donald Trump wants to temporarily suspend all immigration to the United States  because of the coronavirus pandemic . Trump tweeted Monday night that he would sign a corresponding decree. However, he did not give details.

In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 21, 2020

This left it completely open how far the planned measure is - for example for how long the immigration ban applies and on what legal basis it should be imposed. Entering the USA is already largely restricted due to the corona virus.

Trump justified the announced decree with the fight against the "invisible enemy" - which is a paraphrase for the corona virus. He also cited job protection for US citizens as a reason. As a result of the pandemic, approximately 22 million people in the United States have lost their jobs.

Corona in the USA: Trump shoots against Cuomo - New York governor violently countered live

Update, April 20, 11 a.m .:  Also on Sunday, US President Donald Trump found nothing at the daily press conference to cheer and defend demonstrations against the corona lockdown in some US states . On the contrary: "I have never seen so many American flags in protests," he stated quite complacently.

"These are great people," Trump said on Sunday evening in the White House, according to stern.de, about the protesters who are protesting, especially in states ruled by Democrats. "They have runaway cases," Trump said. These people wanted their lives back.

Meanwhile, Trump wants to meet with the governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo - previously the two had exchanged views on how to deal with the Corona crisis.

Corona virus: Trump puts responsibility for corona tests back on governors

Update, April 20, 6:58: The responsibility for Corona tests , US President Donald Trump now the fed pushed governors of the states . The governors "wanted total control over their states upon opening, but now they want us, the federal government, to run the tests," Trump criticized Sunday night (local time) at his daily press conference at the White House. In his opinion, tests should be "a local matter ".

In the United States, the dispute between Trump and the governors of some states is increasing. Both democratic and republican governors complain of a lack of nationwide tests . However, these are prerequisites for the gradual reopening of the economy that Trump is aiming for.

Corona in the USA: Governors complain about the lack of corona tests

The transmitter CNN said the Republican governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan , on Sunday, that the absence of tests from the beginning the number one problem was. And even now, the capacities are "not nearly where they should be". US Vice President Mike Pence announced at the press conference that test capacities would be expanded. They will work with the governors on this matter.

Update, April 19, 10:15 a.m .: Donald Trump is not only giving out  within the United States . After it became known that US intelligence agencies were suspected of having the coronavirus in an organic laboratory outside of Wuhan and not in a wildlife market in the Chinese metropolis, the US president reacted. "Was it a mistake that got out of control, or was it done on purpose? If it was a mistake - a mistake is a mistake. But if they were knowingly responsible for it, there should certainly be consequences, "said Trump.

Corona in the USA: Trump shoots against Cuomo - New York governor violently counteracts live

Update, April 19, 8:55 a.m .:  US President Donald  Trump distributed on Friday (April 17) on Twitter against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo when he asked, among other things, for more financial support from Washington. While Cuomo gave a press conference , the US president commented that the governor should "complain less" and "do more". This was reported by CNN , among others

Instead of sitting at home, Cuomo  should "maybe go to work". Cuomo reacted extremely angry - and spoke during the press conference on Trump. "If he's sitting at home and watching TV, maybe he should get up and go to work," said the governor. Cuomo added that he didn't know how many more times to thank Washington for the support - Trump was just doing his job. "I don't know what to do - send a bouquet?" He asked.

Corona in the US: Trump calls for protest - Governor responds: "Confused abuse"

Washington - Donald Trump has "losgefeuert" several Twitter messages on Friday and expresses its solidarity with the demonstrators who are looking for an end to the output constraints due to the coronavirus strongly make. "Free Minnesota!" and "Liberate Michigan!" the US President wrote and sent a "Liberate Virginia, and save your great second constitutional amendment. It's under siege!" after. This addition refers to the right to carry weapons guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution.

Corona: Donald Trump attacks US governors - reactions follow promptly

Demonstrations against coronavirus exit restrictions have been held in all three states in the past few days . It is obvious why the supposedly most powerful man in the world does this: These three US states are ruled by politicians of the Democratic Party - in other words, bad opponents of the Republican Trump.

The (democratic) governor of the State of New York, Andrew Cuomo , was also addressed by Donald Trump *: he should "go out and do his job," the 73-year-old wrote about the head of government of the US, who was the worst affected by the coronavirus with over 10,000 deaths State. Cuomo himself has already responded and replied that if Trump "sits at home and watches TV, he should get up and go to work".

Public life restrictions apply in more than 40 of the 50 U.S. states. Donald Trump had made it clear on several occasions that he wanted the exit restrictions to end in order to boost the economy again. However, the decision-making power rests with the governors of the individual states. It recently came as a surprise that Florida gave the “green light” for wrestling events despite the restrictions.

Fighting Corona: "No time to deal with Twitter wars"

Michigan's governor Gretchen Whitmer responded to Trump's Twitter messages by saying that she hoped they "would not encourage further protests." Michigan will then bring business back to normal, "if it is safe," she said.

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam said that given the struggle against Corona, he "didn't have time to deal with Twitter wars." Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said to the President's tweets that his primary job was to ensure the safety of his state's residents. He also had no time to consider why multimillionaire Trump * spreads his attacks online.

"Armorer Donald #Trump: US President incites supporters to fight protective measures". And should the world really endure that for years to come? https://t.co/Ox45J3JMWx

The governor of the state of Washington, however, sharply criticized Trump. His "confused abuse" and calls for "liberation" from states could lead to violence, warned Governor Jay Inslee . The president incited the uprising and spread lies. Predecessor Barack Obama also hands out violently against Trump.

Donald Trump confirms U.S. protesters' corona curfew

There have been demonstrations against the curfew in all three states named by Trump , in which thousands of people are reported to have participated. During the largest protest, armed protesters protested in Minnesota's capital Lansing on Wednesday, sometimes with Trump campaign caps and flags. Further demonstrations against corona measures are planned for the weekend, including in other US states.

In the meantime, it can be seen in California that ex-governor and Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger is said to be the current governor Gavin Newsom's adviser during the corona crisis. Demokrat Newsom introduced a working group of politicians and business people to work on plans for economic opening and a restart after the Corona forced break.

Corona in California: "Governor" Schwarzenegger in action

The “terminator” also plays a role here: in addition to the Republican Schwarzenegger , California's governor from 2003 to 2011, other ex-governors are also on board. From business, former Disney boss Bob Iger and Apple CEO Tim Cook are among the advisory staff in the fight against the spread of lung disease *.

Newsom announced earlier this week that it would adhere to the extensive exit restrictions for the nearly 40 million residents of the US West Coast state. Only when the number of Covid 19 patients * in hospitals decrease will the restrictions in public life be relaxed

The United States has been the country with the highest number of confirmed corona infections in the world for some time. Their number rose to over 700,000 on Friday, according to Johns Hopkins University, and almost 36,800 fatalities are reported. Trump also has his very own opinion on the statistical analysis of China : he accuses the Middle Kingdom of a correction by the government of corona victims that is still significantly too low. The actual numbers * are "significantly higher, and significantly higher than that of the United States," he tweeted.

For the United States , on the other hand, the president expects fewer deaths as a result of the coronavirus pandemic than feared. The currently expected number of victims is based on predictions of at least 100,000 deaths that the White House had recently presented. The 73-year-old spoke in a press conference of between 60,000 and 65,000 fatalities.

In Germany, a 101-year-old towered out of a senior residence because she wanted to congratulate her daughter on her birthday - thanks to good-faith policemen.

A mask requirement will be introduced in Bavaria from April 27 - we explain the background to this.
