Deconfinement: did your MP vote for the executive plan, widely approved by the Assembly?

THE POLITICAL SCAN - In an advisory vote, 368 MPs supported the government's May 11 strategy on Tuesday. Is your elected representative one of them?

The National Assembly approved the strategy of the executive. Deconfinement in several phases and by department, gradual reopening of schools ... After a debate of more than 3 hours and an advisory vote, convened Tuesday by the government, 368 deputies supported the plan presented by the Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe. In total, 100 elected representatives preferred to vote against and 103 abstained, out of 577 deputies - the rest did not take part in the ballot.

This result is not surprising, the government having an absolute majority of parliamentarians La République en Marche (LREM). Almost all of them voted for: only one vote against (the "rebellious" Martine Wonner) and six abstentions (including elected officials Perrine Goulet, Patrick Vignal and Hubert Julien-Laferrière) are missing. A majority partner of LREM, the MoDem supported the plan unanimously.

LFI and RN, only unanimous in opposition

On the benches of opposition, the deputies refused to grant a “blank check” to the executive, accusing him in particular of “incoherent” decisions. But only two contingents were united in their hostility to the government plan: the parliamentarians of La France Insoumise (against), opposed to the return to school on May 11, and the six elected members of the National Rally (against).

The others did not vote as one man:

● in the ranks of Republicans , a majority of elected officials (67) abstained, 24 voted against and 11 for, including the ex-candidate for the presidency of the party, Guillaume Larrivé, and the president of the Finance Committee , Éric Woerth;

● among the socialists , most voted against (20), including the number one of the Socialist Party (PS), Olivier Faure, and 10 abstained;

● the Liberties and Territories groups (3 for, 11 against, 5 abstentions) and UDI-Agir-Indépendants (15 for, 3 against, 9 abstentions) were also divided;

● the Communists and their overseas allies (GDR) narrowly lacked unanimity against the government (14 against, 1 for).

Some 75 elected representatives - at most - were present in the hemicycle, due to health rules, but all the deputies were able to vote. Even in the event of surprise disavowal, the government would not have been obliged to give up its strategy: the ballot provided for by article 50-1 of the Constitution is only consultative. Unlike the binding vote, expected in May, on the bill to extend the state of health emergency for two months.
