Confinement or not, the month of May brings its share of changes. Here's what you need to know.

Like every month, the legislation and certain tariffs evolve. The coronavirus crisis is also bringing about some changes. Here's what to expect from May 1, 2020.

Work stoppage turns into partial unemployment

On April 17, the government announced that the 2.1 million French people on work stoppage for child care or very vulnerable to the coronavirus would go on short-time work. This will be effective as of May 1 and employees will therefore receive 84% of their net compensation, or approximately 70% of the gross.

So far, and retroactively since March 12, they have received 90% of their gross salary but, after a month's layoff, they would have received only 66% of their gross salary. For employees on minimum wage, their partial unemployment will be increased to 100% of their salary. A measure which should last at least 11 days, depending on the reopening of schools, and which should greatly increase the number of French partially unemployed, currently brought to more than 10 million.

Notary fees down

While their activity is greatly reduced during a period of confinement, notaries see their rates change in May. In fact, their fees will drop by 1.9% on average as of this Friday. This will concern all acts, except that of the registration of the Civil Solidarity Pact (PACS), the price of which will be reduced by half.

In addition, from this Friday, they will also be able to grant a discount of up to 20% - against 10% today - for operations of more than 100,000 euros - against 150,000 today. Their prices will be revised again in two years.

Gas: Engie's regulated prices drop by 1.3%

As of this Friday also, the regulated tariffs excluding tax of Engie will drop by 1.3% compared to the scale in force since April 1. Since January 1, 2019, these rates have decreased by 23.2%.

Recreational drones must be equipped with signaling devices

Drones, traveling without anyone on board, whose mass exceeds 800 grams must be equipped from May 1 with an " electronic or digital signaling device and a light signaling device ". The objective: to be able to detect them in flight.

A measure which therefore separates into two points. On the one hand, electronic reporting, which excludes " drones used for leisure remotely piloted by sight by a remote pilot member of an association affiliated to a recognized federation ", " devices used inside enclosed spaces and covered ”and“ gear trapped or towed from the surface of the ground or water ”.

On the other, the light signaling, which excludes " craft which make flights between sunrise and sunset " and " craft which carry out experimental flights for test or control purposes in conditions defined by the ministry in charge of civil aviation ”, specifies the Official Journal. Failure to comply with these rules will result in confiscation and a fine of 135 euros.
