Geneva-Sana
The United Nations today warned that nearly one million displaced people in Yemen are at risk of losing shelter due to a lack of funding, with the outbreak of the Corona virus "Covid 19" around the world.
"There is an urgent need for $ 89.4 million in the coming weeks to continue the assistance programs that contribute to saving the lives of the Yemeni displaced," she told AFP, warning that the shortfall threatens the necessary assistance to about a million displaced Yemenis and refugees.
"Yemen is already facing the largest humanitarian crisis in the world," Manto said at an online news conference in Geneva, explaining that "the country is now also facing the interconnected threat of the Corona Virus pandemic and the impact of heavy rains and recent floods."
Without this aid, the UN commissioner warned that these displaced people would be without means to find food and shelter, stating that for many refugees and displaced families this is a matter of life and death.
It is noteworthy that the Saudi aggression against Yemen since 2015 has left multiple humanitarian crises in addition to the massive destruction in the infrastructure, economic and property of Yemenis.
The UN spokesperson stressed that after five years of war, more than 80 percent of the Yemeni population needs some form of assistance, noting that nearly four million IDPs, returnees, refugees and asylum seekers now depend on humanitarian aid to survive.
