【New Coronary Pneumonia】 Three thousand Hong Kong people recruited blood test and saliva to detect hidden infection

2020-04-29T04:14:36.022Z

The epidemic of the new coronavirus is spreading around the world, and there are asymptomatic invisible patients all over the world. They can usually escape the conventional surveillance system, making the virus spread in the community and becoming a major obstacle to epidemic control. Since there is no information about local hidden infections in Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong School of Medicine decided to take the lead in conducting research and recruit 3000 Hong Kong people (from babies to elders) from today (29th) to immunize their blood and saliva samples Globulin (IgG) test, analyze the hidden infection status of Hong Kong, and explore the next step of epidemic prevention strategy.

Chen Jixiang, head of the Department of Microbiology at the University of China Medical School, said that between 2% and 30% of cases of recessive infections in Europe and the United States have become the source of community infections. There is no data on the situation in Hong Kong. He pointed out that this action is based on the assumption of 1.5%, and decided to recruit 3,000 people for research, including epidemiological studies, understanding the source of infection, etc., to facilitate the next round of COVID-19 new coronary pneumonia prevention measures.

He pointed out that the recessive patients who had suffered from new coronary pneumonia will have immunoglobulin (IgG) 2 to 3 weeks after the onset of the disease, so this test will use a serum test to test the participants who have been infected with the virus. He pointed out that the test is not a virus test, and participants should not pass this test to test whether they have new pneumonia. He said that the project is supported by the government and the results will also be submitted to the government in order to formulate the next step of epidemic prevention testing.

Huang Zhisheng, a professor at the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Medical School of the CUHK Medical School, said that the recruitment of 3,000 Hong Kong people required them to have been in Hong Kong for a long time and had no respiratory symptoms in the past 14 days. The registration time will be from today to May 13th. Citizens can use WhatsApp to register, fill out the screening questionnaire, and then select participants by random sampling.

He pointed out that participants need to go to the Family Medicine Teaching Clinic of Liyuan Health Center of CUHK to draw blood and collect saliva (non-deep throat saliva) samples. Children only need to leave saliva samples. The test will be conducted from May to August, and the test is currently scheduled to be arranged from Tuesday to Friday, and may be adjusted according to the actual situation. Huang Zhisheng pointed out that participants will receive the test results within 6 to 8 weeks. If the participants are positive for IgG, the sponsor will invite their close contacts to participate in the second round of research.
