Bolivia will relax mandatory containment measures from May 11, but will keep its land and air borders closed until the end of the same month, President Jeanine Añez announced on Wednesday.

"We will maintain the confinement under current conditions until May 10. From May 11, we will move to a new form of containment (...) which will be called dynamic containment , " said the interim president in a statement. The country decreed compulsory containment on March 17, with border closures, land and air transportation, and work stoppage in the public and private sectors. According to Ms. Añez, the recovery methods will vary by region or city depending on the evolution of the pandemic. The country has recorded 1053 reported cases, including 55 deaths, according to the latest official figures.
From May 11, local governments will regulate supply activities and public transportation. But the borders and the airspace But will remain closed until the end of May, except for the Bolivians who return home. The suspension of classes in schools and public events, such as sports and religious events, is also extended.
The appearance of the coronavirus epidemic in the country forced the authorities to postpone the general elections scheduled for May 3 which were to allow the Bolivians to designate a successor to Evo Morales (2006-2019) and try to get out of the post crisis -electoral which shakes the country since October. The new poll should take place between June 28 and September 27.
