Investigation launched against Bolsonaro 3:14

(CNN Spanish) - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro signed a decree on Wednesday that supersedes a previous one in which he announced the appointment of Alexandre Ramagem as new general director of the Federal Police.

Earlier, the Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, had suspended that appointment.

The decision was based on the danger posed by the inauguration of the post of director general of the Federal Police.

According to the court order, it could produce irreparable damage to the investigation opened in the Supreme Court that studies possible crimes committed in the appointment itself.

On Friday, April 24, Sergio Moro resigned from the post of Minister of Justice and Public Security.

According to Moro, this resignation would be motivated by the intention of President Jair Bolsonaro, to politically interfere with the Federal Police by removing his boss.

Bolsonaro denied having carried out any improper act.

He stated that he had never requested privileged information and that the former director general of the Federal Police, Mauricio Valeixo, voluntarily resigned from his position.

The president argued that he did not have to ask for permission to exercise his function as President of the Republic to replace the top police chief.
