Today, cautious calm prevailed in the areas of Tripoli and Saida in Lebanon, after the riots that took place last night from some protesters, which caused severe damage to Bank Street in Sidon and resulted in the injury of more than eighty Lebanese soldiers.

The Lebanese National Media Agency stated that the majority of the banks ’façades shattered and scattered the glass in the roads, including Bank Audi and the Mediterranean Bank at the Ilya signal and the Marjan Roundabout from the cracker, as well as the banks off the center of the pole at Nejmeh Square in Saida.

In Nabatiyeh, unknown persons threw a Molotov cocktail at the entrance to a bank on Mahmoud Fakih Street, causing fire at the entrance. Civil defense personnel and patrols from various security services came to the scene.

In Baalbek, unknown persons also fired a missile shell on the Ras Al-Ain road and near the governorate building, which shattered the windows of one of the rooms in the postal building in Mahalla, while the traffic control room reported that it was cut off on the highway of the factory, Rachaya, Al-Suwairi locality, and 20 people were arrested.

Last night, Beirut and Lebanese regions witnessed sit-ins and protests to condemn the circumstances and living conditions, which focused on banks and their centers interspersed with riots.

In a statement issued by the Orientation Directorate, the Lebanese Army Command announced that 81 soldiers were wounded during the implementation of their duties to maintain security and stability in the various Lebanese regions.

The statement pointed out that 50 military personnel, including 6 officers, were wounded in Tripoli, and army units arrested 19 people for throwing explosives, throwing stones at the army, sparking riots, burning banks and a number of ATMs, as well as stopping another person for firing towards demonstrators, which resulted in the injury of one of them.

In the locality of Al-Bahsas Tripoli, a demonstrator was thrown with stones from demonstrators, what resulted in a military injury, and a mechanism was damaged, while a military patrol in Hamra Street, Beirut, was stoned with stones and glass as it reopened the road, injuring 4 soldiers.

During an army patrol reopening the road in Sidon, it was thrown at rocks, wounding 4 soldiers, including an officer, and damaging 3 military vehicles.

And on the coastal highway in the locality of Naameh, army patrols deployed at more than one point were stoned while trying to reopen the road, injuring 21 soldiers.

The protests that took place in Tripoli and some Lebanese regions during the past two days resulted in the injury of 54 soldiers, in addition to burning and destroying a number of banks.
