The number of cases of new coronavirus in South Africa on Tuesday exceeded the symbolic figure of 5000, after an increase of 354 in a day, said the ministry for Health.

The country now has 5,350 cases and the death toll has increased by ten to 103. "This is the largest daily figure to date, representing a 73% increase from the previous day," said the ministry said in a statement. The day before, 203 cases had been reported.
South Africa is for the moment the country of Africa which announces the most cases, followed by Egypt. The country must begin May 1 to relax the strict containment measures adopted since March 27.
