The Chinese People's Liberation Army announced today that its navy expelled an American warship that violated the territorial waters off the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea.
"The USS Barry missile destroyer yesterday violated the Chinese territorial waters, which could have caused an accident," the Chinese newspaper, The Global Times, quoted Colonel Li Huameen, a spokesman for the Chinese military's Southern Command, as saying. The American missile destroyer, observing its path and then warning and expelling it.
He assured me that "these provocative measures by the United States seriously violate international law and related norms, and also seriously violate China's sovereignty and security interests and intentionally deepened regional security risks in the region."
Li stressed that "this can cause an accident easily and it is against the context in which the international community is making focused efforts to fight the Corona pandemic and the common will of the South China Sea countries to protect peace and stability in the region." He called on the American side to focus on preventing and controlling the spread of the Corona At home, instead of destabilizing regional peace and security.
Ren Guoqiang, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defense, announced last March that China firmly opposed the United States' frequent dispatch of warships and military aircraft to the South China Sea for guided and provocative exercises and patrols.
