(CNN Spanish) - A heroine from the DC Comics universe arrives on the screen of HBO Latin America: Batwoman. Just as deranged as her cousin, Bruce Wayne, who has been missing for years, becomes the female version of the vigilante dark knight, continuing his legacy.

But every superhero has his counterpart, the villain who will make his life impossible. In this case her name is Alice, somewhat dark, insane and disturbed by something that happened in her past. We spoke via phone from Toronto with Rachel Skarsten, who plays Alice, the antagonist of the series, a relatively new character who emerged in 2009 in the DC Comics cartoon 'Detective Comics'.

“My concern in creating the Alice character is that I wanted to create her a real individual and individualize her with the differences in comparisons to Joker and Harley Quinn. I understand the obvious comparisons, but the important thing about Alice is that she is such a character and I wanted to do her justice. When I auditioned for this role, I gave her my own performance and when I saw the comics and saw that she was blonde and green-eyed I said to myself: I'm Alice! DC Comics gave me all the support and tools to build it and being a Batman fan, I couldn't disappoint fans, "says Skarsten.

In the first chapter we learn the story of our protagonists and how an organized crime fight leads to a car accident that will change the lives of the protagonists.

Pop Zone: How do you think the car accident in which he separated from his sister affected him?

Rachel Skarsten: The car accident that happens in the first episode and completely changed the trajectory of Alice's life. Later you will be able to see what it was that lived after it. It certainly made his life take a different path. His humor, his intelligence and his strength are part of it, regardless of whether or not he had that accident and as I say, you use them for evil, instead of building a better world. ”

There are undoubtedly two characters Alice hates in the series: “Alice blames her dad for the car accident, is disappointed that her father did not protect her, and does not feel the least bit of love for him and wants to destroy him. And there is Kate, who also feels very disappointed and angry, but dreams of meeting with her and that they can have a relationship, but deep down, she holds a grudge against them, ”says the actress who gave life to Black Canary in the series' Birds of Prey 'in 2002.

“I felt like I was coming home, I went back to the Warner Brothers family, to the DC Comics family, but it's different. When I did this series I was 16 years old and I was on another level of my life. Today that I have just turned 35, the emotion is different. The way of thinking is different. The characters are different. Alice is evil. I'm doing something completely different ”, says the actress who has also participated in the films '50 Shades of gray 'and' Timeless love ', among others.

"I've been a Batman fan all my life, I had everything about Batman when I was a kid. I adore the Batman that Adam West made and when I met him I can say that he blocked me so much that I don't remember anything from that occasion. When I was told that I was in Batwoman, I was amazed by the story, the turn it would take, the great representation of the characters and that my inner geek asked, "Can I handle the batmobile?"
