A senior Hamas official confirms to Israel Today that significant indirect contacts are being made with Israel in mediating Egypt for a prisoner exchange deal. According to him, Israel is strongly opposed to a two-stage deal as proposed by the organization.

According to the Palestinian official, Israel wants to reach a single deal, in which the bodies of the spacecraft Hadar Goldin and Oron Saul will be returned, giving information on the fate of the two Israeli civilians held in Gaza (Abra Mengistu and Hisham Ah-Sayyid). In exchange for promoting the deal, Israel is offering assistance to Gaza in dealing with the Corona epidemic and promoting economic projects in the Strip with the support of UN and Qatar.

The senior official also adds that there is a difference of opinion between Hamas and the Hamas political bureau abroad regarding the ongoing talks and the possibility of executing a deal in the near future. According to him, senior political bureau officials, supported by the prisoner's portfolio holder Musa Dodin, do not support sustaining the talks as long as Israel does not commit to release prisoners according to a list submitted by Hamas, against the Hamas leadership in Gaza, and the prisoner's holding in Gaza is Ruhi Rohta, supporting the indirect talks.

The Palestinian official estimated that in light of the fact that Hamas' leadership in the Gaza Strip is more influential than the members of the organization's political bureau abroad, there is a high chance that the Egyptian-mediated indirect contacts will continue. The senior official also stressed that despite the desire of various Europeans to mediate contacts (Germans and Swiss), they will continue to be done only through Egyptian mediation.
