Coronavirus: Equatorial Guinea extends containment in extremis

Equatorial Guinea finally decided to extend at the last minute the total confinement of the two largest cities, Malabo and Bata, and other measures to limit the spread of the new coronavirus, by a decree of the Prime Minister. While April 30 was to be the last day of confinement of the two cities, "the state of health emergency has been extended for a period of 15 days with all preventive measures , " said Prime Minister Francisco Pascual Obama Asue, in the decree published online and dated Wednesday.

Equatorial Guinea, a small central African country with a population of 1.3 million, has officially counted 315 cases of coronavirus since the start of the epidemic. In early April, the government first closed the borders and prohibited travel between regions, notably prohibiting maritime traffic between the capital, Malabo, located on an island, and the mainland, where Bata, the economic capital, is located. from the country. The complete containment of these two cities was then announced for two weeks in mid-April.
