The General Delegation for the French language and the languages of France lists terms from the medical sphere.

The language does not know the crisis. In this pandemic period, the General Delegation for the French language and the languages of France (DGLFLF) at the Ministry of Culture always takes care, as it is its mission, to propose to the general public words in French to speak well of realities around us.

This is how by going to his site, you discover a whole bunch of new words and new meanings. If the fakenews , or at least "infox" in good French, did not wait for the coronavirus to circulate, they certainly know a new virality since the beginning of the health crisis. This is what the World Health Organization has called "infodemia", as reported by the DGLFLF. It is a suitcase word, formed on the terms "information" and "epidemic", used to "qualify the rumors around the coronavirus circulating on social networks".

Through a file of ten pages, we can also find precisely the meaning of words, sometimes learned, from the medical sphere and which are now part of our daily lives. Some examples: “running in” means the “initial period of a therapeutic trial during which a group of patients receives standardized treatment, so as to make this group homogeneous at the start of the trial”; "Teleconsultation" characterizes "remote medical consultation, whatever the means of transmission used" and "expology", "all methods and techniques to assess the health impact of an environmental risk on a given population ”.

As usual, the DGLFLF takes care to give us keys to understand the nuances of the words that inhabit the French language. Thus, it reminds us that the word "comorbidity", which "is characterized by the existence of a main disease called" primary "or" index "associated with multiple and specific clinical conditions", should not be confused with "multimorbidity", which corresponds to "the sum of clinical conditions without the predominant main disease also known as" primary "or" index "". In the same way, it shows us that the French language has all the tools to describe the reality of the past few days. To the very unfortunate "cluster", it suggests the phrase "epidemic focus". A much clearer form.

Each of these words was published in the Official Journal and can be found in the Franceterme database, which lists more than 8,000 French equivalents of foreign terms.
