"Like the climate crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is a crisis for children's rights , " said Greta Thunberg, 17, quoted in the press release. "It will affect all children, now and in the long term, and vulnerable groups will be the most affected." "I call on everyone to react and join me in supporting the vital work of UNICEF to save children's lives, protect their health and continue their education," she added.
Call for the “digital strike”
The activist decided, through her foundation, to give UNICEF the prize of $ 100,000 that was recently awarded to her by the Danish NGO Human Act. The NGO also donated $ 100,000 to join the initiative to support UNICEF, the statement said. These funds should help the UN agency in the areas of "food, health, the fight against violence and the decline in education" of children caused by the containment and closure of schools.
