After six weeks of uncontrolled hair growth, hairdressers in the city and district of Dachau can finally open their salons again on Monday. It is already clear today that the rush will be enormous, which is why many shops will work in shifts.

In the past four weeks, the corona crisis had caused citizens to go through hairy times. In the literal sense. The hairstyles grew uncontrolled, hand-wide hairlines exposed supposedly real blondes, and former ponies have long reached over the cheekbones. Some women are said to have been so desperate that they picked up the potty themselves. "It will be exciting to see what we get," says Angela Miller, master hairdresser in the "Haarem" salon in Dachau's old town, laughing.

But the tension on the wild growth on the customer heads is outweighed by another feeling: the anticipation to be able to open again next Monday. "We want to finally work again, laugh again with our customers, they are part of our shop," emphasizes Miller.

Marius Lill, owner of Lill and Lill Hair and Bodyconcept in the old town, admits that he has had “existential fears” in recent weeks. He received the emergency aid for companies only four days ago - but the sum was “just a drop in the bucket” anyway. Stefania Mesina, Managing Director of C + P Haarmoden in Dachau, also points out that hairdressers “just don't tip. It is an important part of our income ”.

After all, in the coming weeks the hairdressers will not be able to complain about lack of work. Since it has become clear that hairdressers will start again on May 4, “we are being stormed,” reports Miller. "The phone rings every second, we're packed with picks," Lill emphasizes. At C + P hair fashions, where you could come spontaneously up to now, nothing works without an appointment: your shop, according to Mesina, "is totally booked".

The "Haarem", which employs 20 hairdressers, will therefore work shifts, every day from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Marius Lill also wants to work in shifts, which is not only due to customer management, but, as he says, to employee protection: "I don't want my colleagues to have to work with a mask for ten hours."

In fact, hairdressers and customers will have to follow strict safety and hygiene rules. Sure, masks are mandatory, as is the minimum distance between the chairs. In addition, says hairdresser Miller, "that we no longer display magazines". Trimming beards and plucking eyebrows is just as taboo as a dry haircut: "Anyone who comes has to have their hair washed from now on." Wait for the store. ”At“ Haarem ”, however, they don't want to spoil their mood:“ Together we can overcome every hurdle! ”

But as economically and organizationally difficult as the corona crisis for hairdressers may be, salon owner Lill is optimistic that the industry could benefit from this at least in the long term: “Appreciation for hairdressers will increase. This will also have a positive effect on training, ”believes the Dachauer, who has been running his salon in the old town for 17 years. The hairdressers therefore believe that none of their customers will give up their loyalty after the six-week break.

For example, hairdresser Mesina received many desperate calls for help from her customers via Facebook: they would have tried it with drugstore colors. The specialist had already been able to admire some of the results of these self-experiments digitally: "It didn't work so well," she says politely. Her colleague Angela Miller fears especially unsuccessful child haircuts and ponies. All in all, Mesina summarizes, "it was probably a very hard time for all of us".
