The cat is out of the bag - or rather the chamois: the summer concept for the Sudelfeld is to be named after the animal native to the Alps. The first ideas are clear.

Bayrischzell - stimulation yes, but just not a "Disneyland": So far, the opinion of the municipality of Bayrischzell has been about a possible summer concept for the Sudelfeld. Now, for the first time, there are concrete ideas for designing and marketing the area outside the ski season. Representatives of the local tourism company Alpenregion Tegernsee Schliersee (ATS) presented a detailed picture to the local council. Not only the scope of the project, but also the costs are anything but modest: around one million euros would have to be invested for this. Nevertheless, the local council unanimously approved the concept and gave the ATS the green light for the next planning phase.

Mayor Georg Kittenrainer appeased: It was just a first draft. This had to be submitted as a master plan promptly in order to be able to collect funding from the Alpine Model Region for individual plans. Grants of up to 75 percent are conceivable, said Kittenrainer. Only then would the ideas be specifically discussed at workshops and with the participation of citizens and affected property owners. "ATS is responsible for the concept, not for the implementation," said Kittenrainer. "It is up to the new local council."

Gams goes well with Bayrischzell

In his market analysis, ATS board member Harald Gmeiner did not miss the fact that the Sudelfeld is already fully developed thanks to ski operations - with a storage pond, lifts and restaurants. Good conditions to make the situation on the mountain tangible for "movement in nature", says Gmeiner. Hiking, climbing and cycling are the credo of ATS. Gmeiner also came up with the idea for the name of the planned adventure park: "Gamspark Sudelfeld."

The alpine animal comes in handy: it is emblazoned on the Bayrischzeller coat of arms and can be seen in the wild on the summit of the Great Traithen. The title is also based on the chamois climbing sculpture on the Wendelstein and on a legend of the “white chamois”, which supposedly jumped over hill and dale in the region. A motto, "which is family and child-friendly so that it can be marketed in the best possible way", explained Gmeiner and was already dreaming of soft toys and coloring books as souvenirs.

Adventure playground at mountain inns

A possible adventure playground on around 1,000 square meters could be created near the Waller- and Speck-Alm mountain inns. With a rope garden, slackline park and a toddler area with a slide and sandpit. A bouldering hut at the mountain station of the Kitzlahner chairlift and in the adventure park is conceivable for climbing fans. If you want to go faster, Gmeiner says you could use a mountain cart to curve down from the Upper to the Middle Sudelfeld on the tarred road. In addition, the ATS is planning several hiking routes: Simply the "Gamskitz-Steig" which leads around the Sudelfeldkopf and is laid out flat, so that wheelchair users and pushchairs can easily make the tour. The “Gams-Steig”, on the other hand, is more demanding and leads up to a viewing platform on the Vogelsang. A route back through the cannon tube is also supposed to lead down into the valley.

Paths have to be created

All of these "ways must first arise, there are none," Gmeiner admitted. Paths for mountain bikers would also have to be created, which, according to the ATS boss, are an essential part of the concept. Here too, the routes are classified as easy and difficult, added ATS employee Lukas Hanrieder. The “flow trail” on firm ground is suitable for beginners and children, while the narrow “single trail” is steeper and on natural green. Hanrieder regards the "catchment area as a dream from a tourist point of view". Up to 34,000 mountain bikers could ride the Sudelfeld every year.

Kittenrainer found the project presentation “very interesting”. They could be approved with a clear conscience. “The Sudelfeld is already commercialized. If it were the Rotwand, I would run stormy. ”Kittenrainer also wants to continue to pursue the wish to make the Sudelfeld car-free. However, a coherent summer concept also requires the construction of a mountain railway from the valley. Vice Mayor Egid Stadler confirms this: "In summer it is even more important than in winter."
