Munich: Agreement on coalition agreement - handshake failed to materialize

The Greens and SPD on Sunday delivered unusual pictures: Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) and the designated mayor Katrin Habenschaden signed the coalition agreement in the small meeting room of the town hall - but the top of the new town hall coalition naturally refrained from the associated strong handshake or hug with a big gesture. Instead, they positioned themselves at a distance from the group photo. It was toasted with sparkling wine, also at a distance.

However, this does not mean that the coalition partners lack enthusiasm for the joint project - on the contrary. The coalition paper had received clear approval at the Greens and SPD digital party conferences. In the Greens there were 131 votes in favor with three abstentions, in the SPD 113 out of 116 delegates voted yes, two with no, and there was one abstention.

The reactions in the city were mixed. "We are delighted that the new green-red city government has made a clear commitment in its coalition agreement to implement the Altstadt-Radlring and the Radentscheid by 2025," says Andreas Groh, spokesman for the Radentscheid alliance.

It's done. The coalition agreement between @spdmuenchen, Rosa Liste, @VoltDeutschland and @Gruene_Muenchen has been signed. The new city council is constituted on Monday, and then it finally says to me: let's go. For an ecological, social, cosmopolitan Munich. pic.twitter.com/cxoAKhhFEK

His colleague Sonja Haider, who sits on the city council for the ÖDP and will look at the work of the new town hall coalition from the opposition, announces that she will vigorously demand that the plans be implemented: “From now on, actions count. In terms of the budget, infrastructure expansion is the cheapest for the bike. Every euro spent on a bike pays off. "

The local Chamber of Commerce and Industry was less enthusiastic. "The government program shows entrepreneurs the cold shoulder," complains IHK President Eberhard Sasse. With mobility, building and digitization, green-red put the right fields of action in the center. However, the agreed solutions largely went in the wrong direction. The "cumbersome and unclear system for the allocation of the already very scarce commercial space" means that the migration of companies to the surrounding area will inevitably continue to accelerate.
