Berlin (dpa) - The economics ministers of the federal states are striving for a nationwide controlled opening of the hospitality industry in a corridor from 9 to 22 May.

The German press agency learned this on Tuesday evening after a video conference of the country ministers with Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) from participants. An opening is planned for tourist accommodation until the end of May.

The recommendation should form the basis for discussions between Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the Prime Ministers of the federal states on Wednesday. The opening includes compliance with hygiene regulations and distance regulations as well as plans to protect employees.

Bars and restaurants were closed in mid-March to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The only exception was the delivery and collection of food for consumption at home.

Some countries had already announced opening steps for the hospitality industry, with health protection requirements and restrictions. The hospitality industry is one of the sectors most affected by the crisis.

In the past week, the federal and state governments had commissioned the responsible ministers to prepare proposals for framework conditions for the gradual opening of gastronomy and tourism offers - but actually only for the meeting after next.

In a draft resolution for the conference of the economics ministers of the federal states, the date for opening the gastronomy was May 18. This was reportedly met with rejection in many countries.

According to the recommendations, the controlled opening should also apply to restaurants, outdoor dining, cafés, restaurants and pubs, as well as snacks, as the template showed.
