In Venezuela, gigantic clandestine operation to overthrow Maduro

The failed covert operation, which attempted on Sunday to overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, was presented by Caracas as a reissue of the CIA landing of the Bay of Pigs against Fidel Castro in April 1961. According to the first elements, it looks more like an attempt by amateurs doomed from the start to failure, from which the United States and the Venezuelan opposition have carefully kept away.

On Sunday at dawn, Venezuelan forces intercept a commando aboard motor fishing boats trying to land on a beach near the port of La Guaira, about thirty kilometers north of Caracas. Eight of the attackers were reportedly killed, and two captured.
