Judges say responsibility for prisons lies with the Government

The Association of Magistrates affirmed that "no solution to the underlying problem" in the prison system "is in the hands of the Judiciary."

The Association of Magistrates and Officials of the National Justice pointed against the Government for the departure of the prisoners in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Through a statement, he stated that responsibility for the state of prisons is the responsibility of the Executive Branch.

"The freedoms that are submitted to the consideration of magistrates because of the spread of the pandemic in prisons are based on deficiencies in the structures of the prison system and not in the proper process of judicial processes," the statement said.

And he emphasizes that "no solution to the underlying problem is in the hands of the Judiciary."
