Matthias Schricker has been the new pastor of the Lenggries Evangelical Church for a few days. In an interview with his “new” home newspaper, he tells what ambitions he has for the future of the parish.

Lenggries - There was a major change on May 1 in the Protestant parish of Lenggries. Last autumn, Stefan Huber gave up his gown after 15 years. Since then he has been teaching at the St. Ursula Gymnasium Hohenburg and at the Gymnasium Tegernsee (we reported).

Matthias Schricker has now followed in Huber's footsteps. The 51-year-old pastor moved from Bischofsheim in the Rhön to Lenggries for his new office. "I applied for the vacancy here and all my expectations have been met," he says enthusiastically in an interview with the Tölz courier. He was particularly impressed by the Alpine landscape. “I always liked to be in the mountains on vacation. Being able to live here now has a new dimension, of course, ”he says.

Matthias Schricker has been the Protestant pastor in Lenggries since May 1st

Together with his wife Nicole, he now wants to gain a foothold in Lenggries. “My wife will take the step into partial self-employment. She is an alternative practitioner, ”explains Stricker. The two adult daughters did not move to the Tölzer Land. "But you are already looking forward to your visits".

The corona crisis made it somewhat difficult for him to change. “It was a shame that I couldn't say goodbye to my old home community as expected. You couldn't even hug. ”The reception in Lenggries was similar due to the distance regulations. But Stricker says with emotion: "Nevertheless, I felt that the parish welcomed me as warmly as possible at the moment." In the two weeks that Schricker now lives in Lenggries, he especially noticed the good cooperation.

"Hand in hand" with and for Lenggries

After an initial inventory, he would like to “tackle projects together that fit Lenggries”. And that “hand in hand with the church council” - that is particularly important to him. So far, youth and men's work has always been very important to him. "Now you have to see whether you can build on this or whether there are other focal points for Lenggries," says the new pastor. The top priority is still: “to transmit the good news”.

In general, he looks forward to "meeting people," he emphasizes. The key to being together is “not to have a highlighted position. I want to be one of everyone, ”says Schricker, who worked as a baker before he started his spiritual career. He already has plans for his free time. "I really enjoy hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing and skiing in winter." He also wants to try out ski touring. "I can imagine that it suits me and Lenggries well."

Prayer

The faithful have the opportunity to meet their new pastor. Until the restrictions are lifted, there will be two short devotions instead of a service on Sunday in the Waldkirche. The first begins at 9:30 a.m., the second at 10:15 a.m. A maximum of 20 people can participate in a prayer.
