Paris: towards the reopening of the bank and Champ-de-Mars lanes?

2020-05-05T17:51:01.952Z

The first deputy of Anne Hidalgo announced this Tuesday the probable lifting of a ban on access to the quays below the Seine as well as the pelo

They had closed on March 20 after having been the scene of a massive influx of walkers in the previous days. The riverbank promenade but also the lawns of the Champ de Mars (7th) and the Esplanade des Invalides (7th) should reopen on May 11.

During an online press conference on the deconfinement plan of the City of Paris, the first deputy (PS) of the mayor Emmanuel Grégoire announced on Tuesday "the lifting of the ban on the free movement of Parisians" on these three very popular places, starting next Monday.

The prefecture of police, the decision maker in the matter, could not be reached to confirm this information but according to the Town Hall, “all the orders having been taken during the confinement period […] will be fully lifted as of May 11 ".

This also concerns the prohibited areas of the Bois de Vincennes (12th century) and Boulogne (16th century), which will once again be accessible. Or individual outdoor sports which will again be possible in the capital between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Parisians invited to extreme "responsibility"

The mayor of Paris calls however for the “responsibility” of Parisians and “for an extremely careful practice of public space in this period of progressive deconfinement”. New prohibition orders could thus be issued by the prefect of police depending on the practices observed, in particular concerning the sale of alcohol.

“To be clear, if we find that hundreds of young people party by drinking until no time, especially on the bank tracks, the banks of the Saint-Martin canal or the Bassin de la Villette, we will take the necessary measures, argues Emmanuel Grégoire. We will be constantly vigilant ”.

Closed parks and gardens

Uncertainty remains, however, about the reopening of parks and gardens, which should normally remain closed due to the capital's classification in the red zone. "We are going to plead with the police prefecture for a local exception" underlines Emmanuel Grégoire estimating that it would be "deceptive and dangerous from the health point of view to organize a deconfinement in Paris without being able to go to the green spaces, essential to breathe" .

The City, however, is hopeful of being able to reopen all of the covered and open markets (closed since March 24) from May 12. But, there again, she awaits the green light from the prefect of police.
