About a week after the Memorial Day to Israeli fallen soldiers, a serious act of vandalism was carried out in one of the famous memorials to the warriors: the memorial monument to the HL convoy, located near the village of Tsurif, was desecrated and vandalized during the last day (Tuesday).

The monument was erected in memory of 35 fighters who sought to break the blockade on Gush Etzion during the War of Independence, in 1948, but were captured by the locals before reaching their destination. The fighters were murdered there.

The Gush Etzion council head, Shlomo Ne'eman, said of the harsh feelings about the shattered monument: "I was shocked to see the shattering of the new monument in memory of the Fighters' convoy. This is not the first time the memory of Israeli fighters for generations has been desecrated by Arab rioters. The HL convoy paved the way for us and outlined the vision and heritage that we are trying to sustain here today in Gush Etzion. "

He added: "We cannot agree with the reality in which Arab rioters execute lynching in memory of our hero, and demand every effort to treat this event as a serious nationalist event, which requires arrest and extraction of the severity of the law with those terrorists." A trustee instructed the council's staff to take immediate steps in restoring the memorial monument so that it could be repaired as soon as possible.
