The thread linking Michael Flynn to Dan Eldad | Israel today

The National Security Advisers' investigators did not want to prosecute him, but he "admitted" and was sentenced for offenses he didn't commit • sound familiar? • Political-political opinion

Investigators from the National Security Adviser recommended not to prosecute him, but he "fraudulently" admitted and was sentenced for offenses he did not commit at all. • Opinion

Following the ouster of State Attorney Dan Eldad, following an investigation that Eldad launched because of serious suspicions against Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, and Mandelblitt's announcement that he himself is taking the place of Eldad - recent developments in the case of General Michael Flynn, the first national security adviser Of President Trump, which stirs the American media, seems most relevant to the public in Israel.

Few Israelis remember Flynn because he had to resign in February 2017, less than a month after taking office. This, under the cloud of suspected prohibited relationship with Russian officials. After ten months of aggressive investigation by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, Flynn pleaded guilty in federal court to providing false testimony to federal investigators during a meeting with them in the White House on his second day in office.

Flynn's supporters have since argued that Flynn was targeted as a target for elimination by the intelligence system and President Obama. Flynn - a champion with 33 years of service as an intelligence officer, including the head of the Department of Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) - was very familiar with the politicization of the US intelligence team, strongly opposed it - and intended to clear the stables. His fear of him was so great that Obama himself objected to Flynn's appointment at a meeting he had with Trump immediately after the election.

More on:

• Mandelblit: "Convinced that the State Attorney's Office does not prevent political considerations"

• The prosecutor's office wanted "one of ours"; The Justice Minister made it clear to them that the celebration was over

• Ohana vs. Mandelblit, Second Round? Minister of Justice: "I will promote the establishment of an investigation committee for the DIP"

Trump has had to come to terms with the pursuit of Flynn because Trump himself was investigated by Special Prosecutor Muller for two years. Any statement in Flynn's favor would immediately raise conflicts of interest. When Prosecutor Muller closed his investigation, Trump appointed Robert Barr to serve as justice minister. Barr has appointed two federal prosecutors outside Washington to investigate investigators who have persecuted Trump and Flynn, seemingly without cause and without evidentiary infrastructure that justified it.

Last week, one of the prosecutors published documents hitherto hidden by the Department of Justice and the FBI, which prove that the investigators investigating Flynn in the White House have buried it. Led by then-FBI chief Jim Comey, investigators did not tell Flynn that he was under investigation. The purpose of the meeting was not to investigate suspicion of a crime - but, as one agent summed up in a meeting with Comey, to "make him lie so we could sue him or cause him to be fired." This is, as stated, to prevent Palin from ordering the intelligence systems politicized during Obama's term.

Investigators themselves - the documents released reveal, have recommended closing the case against Flynn in the absence of guilt. But the seniors intervened, leaving the case open. To extort a confession from Flynn for an offense he did not commit, prosecutors threatened to convict Flynn's son of an offense he did not commit. The court costs Flynn had to pay were impoverished.

Now, Trump is waiting for the judge at Flynn's trial to cancel the trial. Failing to do so soon, Trump announced his intention to pardon his former adviser. US Attorney General Barre is investigating investigators because there are enough people in the federal prosecution who are not members of the ruling clique, a matter that allows investigations.

In the case of Dan Eldad, only four senior State Attorney's office abstained from signing the attorney's letter condemning Eldad for investigating the allegations against Mandelblit.
