As yesterday for Alan Kurdi, the administrative detention was triggered for the Spanish ship Aita Mari after an inspection by the Coast Guard found several irregularities on board. The ship is moored at the port of Palermo.
Like Alan Kurdi, Aita Mari had arrived in Palermo carrying rescued migrants who were then transferred to the Rubattino ship for quarantine.
The inspection, the Coast Guard said, "highlighted several technical and operational irregularities in the naval unit flying the Spanish flag which would compromise not only the safety of the crews but also of the people who have been and who could be recovered on board. , during the assistance service provided. Also ascertain some violations of the regulations for the protection of the marine environment ".
For some of them, the intervention of the flag State "which holds responsibility for the compliance of the ship with international conventions and applicable national legislation on safety of navigation and environmental protection" will be required.
