The new wheel protection strips on Münchner Straße are designed to slow down cars and ensure greater safety. The markings are currently being applied.
Holzkirchen - Holzkirchen's new mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) was a bit astonished: "On the third day you are already painting stripes on our street", people said to him. But it was commissioned by the State Building Authority in Rosenheim that started installing protective strips on Münchner Strasse in Holzkirchen on Wednesday. In the end, the dashed markings should extend between the Vilgersthofer site and the atrium.
"The community has been waiting for it," says the town hall manager. "So far, many cyclists have been on the footpath on Münchner Strasse." Apparently because they felt safer there. Many fewer cars in the town center promise greater cycling friendliness. According to traffic reports, around 13,000 vehicles wind their way through Münchner Strasse every day. It often jams. In addition: Many drivers avoid side streets, which residents complain about. The bike could be a solution, especially for local trips. But cycling has to be fun for that, said former bicycle representative Hartmut Romanski. Therefore, better opportunities for cyclists are needed.
Another protective strip is already running on industrial and spring streets. "They are the first in the district," says Schmid. The area is not reserved for cyclists alone, but compels drivers to pay more attention. It is not clear whether an additional Tempo 30 zone will be created on Münchner Straße. Here the community is waiting for evaluations from the pilot project (we reported).
