Taboun pointed out that all attempts to whitewash France's colonial image in Algeria "will be doomed to failure," calling on historians to "clarify all aspects of this station and other stations in the memory of the Algerian nation."

The Algerian President also issued a decision to consider May 8 of each year as a "National Memory Day" and gave instructions to launch a national television channel for history.
