Darmstadt (dpa) - After an incident with gunfire and several injuries in Darmstadt, the police reported the arrest of three suspects.
"To what extent these are connected with the fact requires further investigation," said a spokeswoman for the police on Thursday. The search measures continued. There is no evidence that there is a danger to bystanders. "All investigations to date have indicated disputes between two families," it said.
At around 5:15 p.m., witnesses alarmed the police and reported a clash between several people and shooting noises. So far, three men with gunshot wounds have been brought to hospitals, the police spokeswoman said. It is still unclear whether other people were injured in the conflict. "A murder weapon has not yet been secured."
Because of the incident, a "major police operation" is ongoing in the Kranichstein district. Rescue workers with bulletproof vests, helmets and submachine guns were seen on the streets. A police helicopter was in use. According to the investigators, the suspects were arrested during two vehicle inspections. The police did not provide any further information on their identity or the identity of the injured.
The process of the dispute and the number of people involved remained unclear hours after the incident. The police also could not say whether several parties to the dispute fired shots. On the short message service Twitter, the investigators called on to bypass the crime scene in the area of Parkstrasse. Evidence is running there, witnesses are interviewed.
