The special committee chairman, MK Eitan Ginsburg, explained in the plenary that "the section in question is intended to protect democracy from a Knesset that will renew itself, over and over again. We thought that the 23rd Knesset will serve for three years, which is an extension to a full term. Of the Knesset as the law states in the first place, so there is no room for a special majority of 80 MKs.

During the night, the committee discussed changes to the Basic Law: the government and the decision to introduce a change in the law. In the updated version of the law, the term of office of the new government will be four years and not three years, as previously stated, so that Netanyahu and Gantz will each serve as prime ministers for two years and not a year and a half. The committee also discussed the majority that would be required to make changes to the law, and whether this would require a majority of 70 Knesset members or 80 MKs.
