Munich (dpa) - The largest car show in Europe is to take place in Munich from September 7th to 12th next year - a week before the Oktoberfest. This was announced by Messe München as co-organizer of the IAA on Thursday on request. The new International Motor Show should "unite all players in the mobility chain and include open discussions".

On the one hand, a greatly reduced car fair for trade visitors is planned on the exhibition site. On the other hand, the organizers want to approach the population and turn the city center into a stage - with demonstrations, flight taxis, environmental forums and concerts.

However, the plan to hold events in the Olympic Park right next to the BMW tower was canceled. A corresponding report of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (Thursday) is correct, said a spokesman for the fair.

Even before deciding on the successor to Frankfurt as the venue for the IAA, industry circles had said that VW boss Herbert Diess was reluctant to present his cars next to the competitor's headquarters. From the VW group, this had been rejected as nonsense.

The contracts between the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and Messe München would be signed in the next few days, said the spokesman. The IAA had taken place in Frankfurt over the past 70 years, but most recently lost exhibitors and visitors.
