32 years in local politics, 18 years of which the first mayor in Rott: Quirin Krötz can look back on this long time.

Rott - Quirin Krötz has been politically retired since May 1, although he remains as a district councilor for local politics. This career path was not in sight over three decades ago. At that time, Krötz received the suggestion to be set up for the municipal council from the department head of the former road construction office at a Christmas party. "Who chooses a young, cheeky and single", thought Krötz at the time.

However, his candidacy was successful, probably because his popularity in the place, not least due to his work as a coach of the soccer team, was very high. In his second term in office, he was elected second mayor before he took over from Rathi in 2002 as the successor to Gabi Schneider. "I stood by my word to start when the mayor becomes a full-time employee," recalled Krötz.

Quirin Krötz looks back on his time in the Rotterdam City Hall

In his time as the Rotterdam City Hall chief, the municipality grew from 1400 to now over 1650 inhabitants. "My aim has always been moderate growth," Krötz points to the designation of building land, which created 95 building sites - primarily in the local model. Because it was important for Krötz to keep the young people in place. This also required the necessary infrastructure.

During his time as mayor, the school was extensively renovated in terms of energy, the wastewater treatment plant brought up to date and a large food market built in a new location. The latter project had many critics. "For that, and also for other things, I was scolded, also loudly, but everything was still above the belt line," says Krötz, who had to have some tough discussions. "Anyone who knows me knows that I knew how to defend myself as a Leo zodiac sign."

Quirin Krötz from Rott says that to his successor as mayor

The position of the mayor in Krötz's perception has changed significantly: “He used to be the most respected citizen, but today he is seen as a service provider. According to the motto: He should do what we say because we also pay him. "

Krötz has no problems with his successor Fritz Schneider, who for him, as the second mayor so far, was also the candidate of choice: "He will get any help from me if he wants it," promises Krötz, who otherwise wants to stay out of local politics. In the future, he wants to focus more on the family and his hobbies. This includes your own garden, cycling and more recently your own piece of forest. "As a friend of the oaks, I want to convert this from a spruce forest into a mixed forest," reveals Krötz, who also wants to tackle another task. "I will write down my life path for my family."
