Barely fifteen days of crisis have been enough to wipe out almost half of the gains generated over the past five years. In the first quarter of 2020, the economy destroyed 453,800 salaried jobs, according to a first estimate from INSEE. A historic decline, France having never experienced such a level of job cuts in just three months. Worse, during the 2008 crisis, the loss of half a million jobs had been recorded over ... five quarters. At 19.3 million, salaried employment thus returned to its lowest level since the third quarter of 2017.
