In March, the Ickingen trumpeter Heinzi Fuhrmann fell ill with the coronavirus - step by step he is now fighting back.

Icking - When and where did Heinzi Fuhrmann get the corona virus? "I really have no idea," says the Ickinger. It all started in March with typical flu symptoms: body aches, fatigue, "then this coughing started at some point". The 60-year-old breathed harder from day to day. He had a bad feeling, drove to an ENT doctor in Geretsried and had himself tested on Covid-19. “You came out wearing protective clothing and put a stick in my mouth,” says Fuhrmann.

Coronavirus: "Then the cough started at some point"

A few days later, the Ickinger and his wife Constanze were watching television in the living room. "Suddenly she said: Man, you're breathing harder." The couple called the daughter - a trained paramedic - and asked her for advice. This did not flare for long and immediately alerted the emergency services. He brought her father to the Penzberg hospital.

At first not everything went smoothly there: When Fuhrmann was in the hospital, the result of the Corona test came from Geretsried: negative. This was followed by an equally negative flu test in the clinic and the X-ray of his lungs - neither of these helped the doctors. Only a second corona test - this time with a positive result - provided information about Fuhrmann's illness.

At first, not everything went smoothly in the clinic

When the lungs were x-rayed again, the doctors found signs of the virus. "I don't know why they didn't see it the first time," says Fuhrmann at a loss. The Ickinger was lucky that his daughter reacted so quickly. "So I was in the clinic early enough and didn't have to be connected to machines."

Fuhrmann is a trumpeter and plays among others in the Oktoberfest band "Münchner Zwietracht". The 60-year-old owes a well-trained lung to his job. "That is a certain level of fitness that I have ahead of others." Would the illness have been different if the Ickinger hadn't played the brass instrument regularly? Nobody knows that, of course. However, one thing is certain: due to his age and after two serious previous illnesses, Fuhrmann clearly belongs to the group of risk patients.

Trumpeter's advantage: his well-trained lungs

But the musician didn't let that get him down. During his time in the hospital, one thing drove him above all: the will to live. "Because life is too short anyway," he says. After ten days, Fuhrmann was released from the hospital. It was then quarantined for two weeks. "In the beginning I went for a walk in the garden every day, then it was enough again," reports Fuhrmann.

In contrast to the flu, in which you are usually fully recovered after a few weeks, the coronavirus involves a long regeneration process. "I'm slowly fighting my way back," says the musician in conversation with our newspaper. "I'm currently at about 40 or 50 percent." He also had to slowly approach his beloved trumpet again. “For the lungs, of course, that's great training. But under no circumstances should I overdo it. "

Fuhrmann is optimistic about the future

Nevertheless, the 60-year-old is optimistic about the future: "I guess it will take a good four to five weeks before I will be 80 to 90 percent back." Fuhrmann still has a doctor's appointment in May. "I sense that not everything is good in the lungs. I'll have that checked again, ”he says. Hopefully the Ickinger has now survived the worst. Looking back, he states: “It really wasn't nice. I don't want anything like that. "

During the corona pandemic, many beds remain empty in the hotels. But the Ickinger Landhotel Klostermaier has come up with something: At the moment it rents out its rooms for the home office on a daily basis. A look into room number 112.
