Layla Paláez's grandmother, one of the murdered transgender young women in Puerto Rico, told CNN that her granddaughter had come to Puerto Rico with the desire to improve herself and continue studying before her life was taken from her. The United States Federal Court in San Juan, Puerto Rico, will evaluate the hate crime accusations filed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against Juan Carlos Pagán Bonilla Pagán, 21, and Sean Díaz de León, 19, for the murder of two transgender women. Both suspects remain in custody. Lydia Lizarribar, a lawyer for Pagán Bonilla, declined to elaborate on the case "due to strictly complying with the ethical rules of the legal profession and the obligations towards my client." The defense of the other accused, Díaz De León, is in charge of the Office of the Federal Public Defender. CNN contacted them but so far no response has been received.
