The election for the 3rd mayor has come to the Plieninger Posse. Which in turn offers space for speculation. Comment from our editor Armin Rösl:

It is good that Brigitte Freund, a woman and a member of the Greens, was elected 3rd Mayor of Pliening. The Greens are the second strongest faction in the local council, which consists of ten women and ten men. Both groups are therefore worthily represented. Especially since the 1st and 2nd mayors are both men and both from the CSU.

Freund and the Greens, however, were not chosen quite normally, no: they are the winners and the lucky third of a farce that is second to none.

One can only speculate about their backgrounds and triggers because the parties involved rely on the secret election and on internal discussions in the run-up to the constituent meeting. If one adds up one and one, a large part of the eight votes, all of which have been cast suddenly and exclusively for Beatrice Merk by the Pliening Initiative, can only come from the CSU. Why, that remains her secret.

So suddenly Beatrice Merk was in the spotlight. Unexpected? Or calculated? She herself was surprised and said that the office of 3rd mayor was not in her planning. Why she then went to the run-off election against Brigitte Freund instead of being fair to the two officially named candidates and giving up remains her secret.

The fact that Merk announced her resignation from the initiative minutes later, of which she is the 2nd chairperson and for which she had run for second place in the local elections, should raise the questions for all of the citizens who voted for her: What does Ms. Merk stand for? ? What does she actually want?

Beatrice Merk herself has to find the answers. And everyone who wrote their name on the slip of paper in the first round of the municipal council must put up with the question of why they started such a theater in the first place. Harmony, as conjured up by Mayor Roland Frick (CSU) at the beginning of the constituent session, looks different. By the way, credibility too.
