Romania: during the state of emergency, the political battle continues

The government cannot limit the exercise of rights and freedoms by an emergency ordinance, according to the Constitutional Court of Romania.

One week, day for day, before the start of the deconfinement, Romania posts a rather satisfactory health assessment, with nearly 900 deaths for 15,000 confirmed cases, that is to say a stable average of 300 new cases per day, and nearly 6500 cures. Despite some hiccups during the first of two months of the state of emergency, established by the head of state, Klaus Iohannis, on March 18, the situation seems under control since even in intensive care the figures are reassuring: there are currently about 230 patients hospitalized in intensive care for a capacity of 2600 beds throughout the territory.

But now the Romanian Constitutional Court (CCR) has just ruled that one of the government's emergency ordinances concerning the state of emergency and alert regimes - the one that will be put in place from May 15 - is unconstitutional.
