United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that the Corona virus pandemic poses an unprecedented challenge that requires exceptional international action, noting that the current time is not appropriate to study how this virus appeared.

"The United Nations has been fully involved in developing plans to overcome the consequences of the pandemic in countries affected by this virus and in efforts to save lives, prevent starvation and alleviate the suffering of people," Guterres said in an interview with Russia's Novosti news agency published today.

Guterres explained that after turning the page of Corona, then it is possible to study how this virus appeared and how all parties dealt with the crisis, but the current time is not appropriate for that, expressing his conviction that the lessons that the world will draw from the Corona pandemic will be of paramount importance in dealing with such crises in the future.

Guterres also renewed his call for a global truce in order to focus on efforts to combat the epidemic and its consequences, expressing in this regard that he hoped that the UN Security Council would be able to reach consensus and issue decisions that contribute to achieving this goal.

It is noteworthy that the number of people infected with Corona virus around the world exceeded the threshold of 4 million people, while the virus has killed at least 271,180 people since it first appeared last December.

On the other hand, Guterres considered that terrorists and neo-Nazis intensify "recruiting supporters for them" and broadcast extremism in societies using the Internet and modern technologies, and this raises the concern of the entire world, pointing out that extremist terrorist groups publish messages and videos on the latest platforms and applications designed mostly to lure young people.

Guterres explained that these messages are saturated with false promises and real incitement, and they target the most vulnerable segments of society, noting that the international organization launched last year the United Nations strategy and plan of action to combat expressions of hate in which its organizational capabilities and mechanisms were used to protect human rights and work for a peaceful and prosperous society.
