The Anti-Defamation League has documented a significant increase in anti-Semitic posts targeting Jews in the United States • Some posts have raised demands to isolate the ultra-Orthodox community

The Corona epidemic did not overshadow anti-Semitic remarks against the ultra-Orthodox and Orthodox communities in the United States, but also exacerbated them. In recent months, the Anti-Defamation League has documented the rise in anti-Semitic posts and social media comments directed at Jews in New York and New Jersey, primarily against the backdrop of the Corona epidemic.

In practice, the orthodox community in question is accused of spreading the virus, and it is proposed to prevent community members from receiving medical treatment if they begin, to use tear gas and water spraying to prevent rallies, and in some cases even wonder - "Why won't the Jewish-Orthodox community surface" once and for all .

The Anti-Defamation League has identified seven major categories that characterize the rhetoric of individuals online - especially on Facebook - over the past two months, including: collective accusations, calls for segregation, calls for punishment and neglect, stereotypes, use of force, violation of individual liberties, and comments on Hitler and extermination.

Among other things, the Anti-Defamation League expressed great concern that the allegations appeared in "mainstream" Facebook groups purporting to address issues on the agenda, "but in fact encouraged a discussion that quickly surfaced to legitimize hatred of Jews, both overt and covert."

In fact, active elected officials and those who have held public office in the past have also participated in these social media discussions, despite the hate-filled content - thus providing implicit and sometimes overt support for discussions that may easily turn into anti-Semitism.

The league calls for "all elected officials to use their platforms to distance themselves from a discourse of hatred, to resist and condemn anti-Semitism - especially when it appears on social media channels that are considered mainstream. The Corona crisis should not be an excuse to condemn the hatred and anti-Semitism of the people. It is a scapegoat. An anti-Semitic attack on any group of Jews, whatever it is, is an attack on all of us. "

The harsh statements against the Jews in New York and New Jersey

Collective accusations: Comments and posts accusing the entire Jewish Orthodox community of failing to comply with social remuneration and public health regulations, as well as by infecting non-religious people with the Corona virus - due to a minority action. There were comments that ultra-Orthodox communities around the world behave the same way.

Calls for Separation: Remarks that Orthodox communities must be separated, isolated, and severed from the rest of the communities.

Calls for punishment and neglect: Comments calling for prevention of orthodox and orthodox health care, or for taking care of themselves in the event they begin. In addition, comments were issued stating that communities would only start keeping the rules if rabbis die from the virus. Comments were also documented that only children in the ultra-Orthodox community should be treated.

Use of military force / aid: Postings calling on enforcement authorities to make use of water spray and tear gas have been used to prevent gatherings among the ultra-Orthodox. There were also comments that the Army or National Guard should be mobilized to address the ultra-Orthodox and Orthodox communities.

Infringement of individual liberties: Comments that accuse the ultra-Orthodox and Orthodox communities of violating the public liberties of the public at large for failing to comply with public health regulations - and consequently a call for the general public to "take matters into their own hands".

Comments on Hitler and the extermination of Jews: Posts that have a degrading attitude to the religious beliefs of the ultra-Orthodox community, including comparing religious leaders to Adolf Hitler and positive references to the possibility that the community "will extend over the earth."

Stereotypes: Posts by members of the ultra-Orthodox / orthodox community - literate, illicit and unhygienic living, corrupt, paying no taxes, living on welfare and ignoring the law to get what they want.
