The Minister of Education, Nicolás Trotta, reiterated this Sunday that the Government is analyzing the possibility of a "staggered return" to classes after the winter holidays, but with hygiene and prevention measures for the coronavirus in Argentina.
"That the school returns is what we want, but the sanitary conditions are not given ," he said in a dialogue with Miter radio. He added that a staggered return is being studied "after the holidays , " although he clarified that "it is not confirmed."
In this way, the official reiterated the possible scenario for the students to return to the classrooms. However, he stressed that said return must be within the framework of strict sanitary regulations.
" It will not return normally is what we have to get used to . It is not that in August or September we will return as if nothing had happened, we are going to have to maintain measures and controls," insisted the head of the educational portfolio.
And he expressed that they will analyze the results of the progressive return to the classes that are taking place in some countries of Europe and if it is "epidemiologically possible". "It is not an educational decision, it is science, you have to see how we evolve and how the countries that go back to school do," he insisted.
At the beginning of March, when in Argentina it had only 56 positive cases and 2 deaths due to COVID-19, the Executive announced -among other measures- the suspension of classes in gardens, primary and secondary were suspended until March 31. The authorities then decided to extend the measure indefinitely.
On Thursday, the official had anticipated the possibility of a return to the school year, after the winter recess, and pointed out that in this scenario, classes will not develop normally until specialists find the coronavirus vaccine.
And he even detailed some measures in analysis for school establishments such as social distancing within classrooms, as in all public places and a controlled entrance to schools.
"The behavior of the pandemic must be analyzed day by day. The President's decision is that the return to school is when the risk of contagion can be minimized and it will be throughout the territory, regardless of whether there are provinces that can return in a staggered, "Minister Trotta said.
And he concluded with a request to the educational community "in terms of behavior in schools" to "reorganize the school cycles." And he gave as an example "intensifying" the topics for students who finish high school, who will need "a specific face-to-face module". While "with the other students we have successive years to strengthen the knowledge that could not be dictated in 2020."
