The Iranian Foreign Ministry reiterated that the Syrian people alone decide their future and that Iran supports and stands with Syria in the fight against terrorism.
IRNA news agency quoted Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi as saying that only the Syrian people decide their future without foreign interference, and that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands with the Syrian people in order to fight terrorism and will continue to do so in the future.
Mousavi described the allegations of some of the media about the decision of the guarantors of the Astana process regarding the future of the Syrian government as just baseless allegations.
Mousavi stated that the countries that are guarantors of the Astana process seek to promote the Syrian-Syrian dialogue to determine the future of the Syrian people themselves by approving the de-escalation areas and forming a committee to discuss the constitution and follow the course of the dialogue and national reconciliation.
The countries guarantor of the Astana process, "Russia, Iran and Turkey", renewed at the end of last month, the necessity of respecting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria and continuing to combat terrorism there.
